The Medicare GLP-1 Bridge
This is the program described in Chapter 4. Checked against the official CMS page on October 2, 2026: the rules below are unchanged from what the book says.
- The program runs from July 1, 2026 to December 31, 2027.
- Eligible people pay a $50 copay.
- It covers Wegovy (injection and tablets), Foundayo, and Zepbound in its KwikPen form only, when prescribed to reduce excess body weight and keep it off.
- It runs outside your normal Part D drug benefit, so the Part D deductible does not apply, the $50 copay does not count toward your yearly out-of-pocket limit, and Extra Help does not lower it.
- Your prescriber submits a prior authorization request confirming you meet the criteria.
- You cannot use the Bridge if you have type 2 diabetes, moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnea, or MASH, because those already qualify for coverage through your regular Part D plan.
Program rules can change. Check the official page before you plan around it: Medicare GLP-1 Bridge on cms.gov. To see whether you qualify, go to Medicare.gov/glp1bridge or call 1-800-MEDICARE.
